BACKGROUND

The goal was to make professional chocolate tempering analysis accessible through thoughtful product and interaction design.

PRECISION MADE SIMPLE

A compact chocolate tempering analyzer designed to help users verify tempering results with confidence. Combining controlled cooling, sensor technology and a connected app, the concept aims to make professional chocolate analysis more accessible.

Den sista är nog starkast för portfolio enligt mig. Den känns mindre som en skoluppgift och mer som en riktig produktpresentation.

RESEARCH

The research phase explored chocolate tempering, existing analysis methods, and the needs of small-scale chocolate makers.

  • Current solutions are often costly and designed for industrial environments.

  • Users need a simple and reliable way to verify tempering results.

  • Clear feedback and ease of use are essential during production.

  • Hygiene and cleaning strongly influence product acceptance.

  • Target users include artisan chocolate makers, small businesses, and dedicated home chocolatiers.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT

The concept phase explored how chocolate tempering analysis could become more accessible, intuitive, and engaging. Through sketching and digital visualization, different product architectures, interactions, and user experiences were evaluated.

Three design directions emerged:

1. Compact Analyzer – independent operation through an integrated display and physical controls.

2. Chocolate Lab Core – a functional, prototype-inspired approach focused on measurement and precision.

3. The Capsule – a connected product-service system combining electronic cooling, sensor technology, and digital guidance.

REFLECTION

Design is about making complexity feel simple.

One of the key learnings from this project was exploring how a technical and data-driven process can be translated into a more intuitive user experience. By focusing on interaction, feedback, and accessibility, the project aimed to reduce uncertainty while maintaining confidence in the analysis process.

RESULT

Through iterative design and concept exploration, the project evolved into a solution that balances precision, simplicity, and accessibility.

THE FINAL CONCEPT

The final concept combines precision chocolate analysis with an intuitive user experience. Designed around a removable sample capsule and controlled electronic cooling, the product enables users to verify tempering results through simple visual feedback and digital guidance.

Design highlights include:

  • Compact footprint and sculptural form.

  • Controlled cooling through Peltier technology.

  • Magnetic alignment for effortless interaction.

  • Clear LED communication throughout the process.

  • Integrated app experience for monitoring and analysis.

  • Hygienic design with removable, easy-to-clean components.
